HDMI upscaling is a feature available in models that have HDMI output watching SD DVD content on an HD DVD/Blu-Ray player and a HD television set results in pixelated images. Standard definition television sets and regular DVDs have a maximum resolution of 720xs76.

Today's high definition television sets offer much higher resolutions, with some as high as 1920x1080. As a result of this, when you watch a standard DvD on an HD DvD or Blu-Ray player and a high definition television set, the quality of the picture suffers.;

The picture has to be stretched sometimes as much as two and a half times the original resolution. This causes the video from your DVD to have a pixelated look. HDMI Up-scaling feature, automatically adds pixels to the video to help smoother out pix. elated images to the match HD resolution.
